Language Arts:  Week of March 5th-9th: (Vocabulary Week 16)

**List of vocabulary words can be printed from handouts section of my website.


Reading skills for the week: Read nonfiction novels to learn skills: Making inferences, cause&effect, text structure

Writing skills for the week: Using nonfiction texts to explore author's writing techniques and write in journals.


  • Introduce first 3 vocabulary words.
  • Use the book Rosie the Riveter to teach text structure skills
  • TSW complete a quick write on what they learned while reading the nonfiction article of their choice
  • Library Day

 Social Studies:  Week of March 5th-9th:

Monday-Civil Rights: African American history from Colonial times through modern Civil Rights movement- Read handout-Slavery: No freedom, No rights Complete activity sheet

Tuesday-Write a 160 character text to someone who tried to justify slavery.  Partner activity- Handout with questions and activities related to the Slavery handout

Wednesday- Watch video and take notes on Learn 360- Civil War video and questions

Thursday-Read handout- Civil War and Reconstruction- Complete activity sheet with partner.

Friday- -Read from Scope magazine "Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad". Complete text evidence and central idea activities.

Language Arts:  Week of May 1-4

 The Magician's Nephew by CS Lewis

Monday:  ELA Part 1 State Test

Tuesday: ELA Part 2 State Test

Wednesday: Read Ch. 1 of The Magician's Nephew. Discuss important ideas in groups. Complete character chart.

Thursday: Bellwork-Quick Write about Ch. 1.  Read Ch. 2 and discuss important ideas.

Complete character compare/contrast on Digory and Polly

Friday: Math State Test Part 1



 Social Studies:  Week of May 1-4:

Monday-Watch The Color of Friendship

Tuesday-Watch The Color of Friendship and discuss movie

Wednesday- Take quiz on First Amendment 101 and work crossword puzzle

Thursday-Role Play activity- 5 groups-Each group will come up with a scenario to act out one of the 5 freedoms protected by the First Amendment

Friday- -Math Part 1 State Test

Mystery Unit

Week of November 14th-18th:

Monday- Bellwork-Oxymorons. Case 21 Practice "The Windy Hill." Read "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" from Scope magazine. Complete Making Inferences skill sheet.

Tuesday- Bellwork-Oxymorons. Case 21 Practice"The Titanic" poem and questions.  Group reading of the drama "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."  Go over literary elements of the drama. TSW complete a skill sheet on the literary elements.

Wednesday- Bellwork-Oxymorons. Finish "The Titanic" Case 21 practice.  Quiz on "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."

Thursday- Watch movie Get A Clue.  Compare and contrast movie to the book The Westing Game.

Friday- State Test Reward Day- Bowling and Dodgeball Tournament.
