Mrs. Greenslade’s 6th Grade English Class

          Monday 11/27/17 - Friday 12/1/17

This week in Making Meaning: We are continuing Unit 5--Making Inferences: Fiction, Poetry, and Drama. We will explore the difference between drama and prose and make inferences to understand a play. Students will learn about story elements in a play, including character and theme. I will be reading "The Bad Room" by Patricia MacLachlan as a mentor text. I will conference with students during Independent Reading Time to assess these skills we are learning. Our class Library day is on Tuesday.

This week in Being a Writer: We will continue our 4 week unit on writing a Personal Narrative. Students will review their drafts, and each select one to develop, revise, proofread, and publish. Students will learn how to add select details to their writing and integrate the idea of learning or change in their narrative. We will continue to explore voice in writing, transitional words and phrases, and strong opening sentences and endings. 

This week in Vocabulary: We will begin Lesson 9 in Vocabulary. These words are from An Elephant in the Garden by: Michael Morpurgo---hypocrite, adamant, flail, exasperated, trek, scavenge
