          Monday 2/19/18 - Friday 2/23/18

This week in Making Meaning: We are continuing Unit 7--Analyzing Text Structure: Expository Nonfiction. We will finish up analyzing functional texts and begin looking at various other Expository Nonfiction texts. Students will compare first and secondhand accounts of events. We will be reading Rosie the Riveter: Women in a Time of War and an excerpt from "Slacks and Calluses: Our Summer in a Bomber Factory" as mentor texts. Students will continue reading nonfiction during Independent Reading (IDR) time. I will conference with students during IDR to assess the skills we are learning. Our class Library day is on Tuesday.

This week in Being a Writer: We are continuing our 6 week Unit on Expository Nonfiction Writing. Students will continue working with their partner to finish up any research and note cards on their topic and begin writing their rough draft. Rough drafts will be due on Friday 2/23.

This week in Vocabulary: We will begin Lesson 15 in Vocabulary. These words are from Volcano Rising by: Elizabeth Rusch--spew, ooze, inch, majestic, subterranean, "get down to business"
